THE HOLSTER BAG
After having watched a significant number of episodes of Canadian TV series Lost Girl, I found myself looking for something I didn’t even know exactly what it was – or if it existed at all. It was the kickass thing that our succubus lead Bo wears attached to her thigh. Bo uses it for carrying her weapon of choice (i.e. a dagger) – I wanted a bag in place of the dagger holster, but with the same aesthetics and concept.
So without knowing exactly what I was looking for, I started my frantic internet search until I found something I would -obviously metaphorically- kill for: it was a Jungle Tribe holster bag, notably, the Shark Bite. I was blown away by how creative the bag was.
It’s a killer holster belt bag when attached to the thigh, and I like how there is an extra belt that creates a criss-cross look on the top area. In addition, the bag could be just a bulky chunk standing out but instead, it is very flattering, since it has curved edges enhancing the look, and consists of a wider flat surface on top of which you have a narrower/smaller bag with compartments, zippers, embellishments and so forth.
But it doesn’t end here. There are other ways of carrying the holster bag that look seriously cool, such as carrying it on one side of your torso, with the belt parts sort of creating an empire waistline enhancing the bust, while the bag looks neatly placed and not like a weird protrusion. The curved edges also contribute perfectly to the flattering look. Finally, the holster can be carried as a regular bag hanging from the shoulder. It couldn’t be more versatile.
At this point I realise I must seem like an advertising agent working for Jungle Tribe. Well, let me assure you I am not – to begin with, I -sadly- do not own the cool holster I have been talking about. But I will continue pointint out the cool traits of this edgy piece. It couldn’t be more practical (hands free bag!), is back friendly, comes in different colours and is leather, meaning durability.
Jungle Tribe has a variety of holster bag models that you can find on the marketplace Etsy as well as other online stores that also carry holster bags by other brands: Delicious Boutique, Five and Diamond or ceiba.
My favourite are the gray and black colours, and I don’t really like the brown versions out there because they remind me of medieval attire, rol playing, the world of elves, steampunk, and so on. However, I must say the red holster Jungle Tribe makes is killer.
Sadly, there is a large drawback to this amazing bag and it is called $$$ or €€€, whichever you choose to pay in, especially in the still ongoing financial crisis to which we all long to shout Good riddance! The Jungle Tribe holster bags are in the 300 dollar range or the 250-300 euro range, what with the dollar – euro parity getting closer every day. So unless you are fortunate enough to be able to afford one of these amazing pieces, you will have to look for a more affordable version (Etsy might be a good place to find a holster bag for a cheaper price). To my knowledge, the holster bag is not yet in the market for mass consumption, so it will still be expensive, but that is one of the characteristics of unique items. And who doesn’t love something different, badass and full of character, like the holster bag.
